So this little sugar diet I've been doing this week has been harder than I thought it would be. There have been so many times that I just wanted to give in and eat something tasty. One day it got so bad, that I had to get on the Internet and look up how to get rid of food (particularly chocolate) cravings. Here's what I found:
- Wait 15 minutes; by then the craving should be gone.
- Stay hydrated.
- Never go hungry.
- Balance your meals.
- Get your ZZZ's
- Exercise it away.
- Take magnesium daily.
- Smell it instead. Light a vanilla candle or buy a vanilla patch (?). The scent of vanilla, for some reason, gets rid of cravings.
- Brush it away. Floss or brush your teeth with minty freshness.
- Write it off.
- Turn off the T.V.
- Factor it in. (Just in case you have to give in).
I thought these were pretty helpful tips, and they've worked so far! When it came to #7, I didn't know what foods had magnesium in them, so I looked that up too:
- Fish
- Fruit- bananas, figs
- Grains- oats, brown rice, wheat
- Juices- prune juice
- Dairy- milk, yogurt
- Nuts- almonds, cashews
- Veggies- artichokes, beans, cornmeal, peas (frozen), pumpkin (seeds), spinach, and potatoes.
I was amazed at how my body already kind of figured this out! Instead of getting chocolate, I would turn to almonds, cereal, or milk. Isn't it crazy how our body already knows what to substitute for chocolate?? I thought it was pretty amazing.
Well, so far so good. I haven't given in yet. :) I can make it, just a few more days.
